On the 10th of September, the Celeste, a dazzling sailing boat covered in 60,000 inch-square mirror tiles, will be moored in Portree where it will broadcast songs and stories from the island, collected by artists Zoe Walker and Neil Bromwich. Visitors can tune into the soundscape Celestial Skye on Cuillin FM ~ cuillinfm.co.uk, 106.2 & 102.7FM and on Celestial Radio 87.7 FM, while walking through the bay's landscape. The Celeste is the focal point of Bàta Brèagha/Bonnie Boat, a whole day of art and events around the harbour, including designer craft exhibitions, film screenings, dance performances, coracle and traditional boat building displays, sailing and water vessel races. A ticketed ceilidh will close the day in style!
Come to Skye for the weekend and enjoy some superb walking and the whole day of activities that will give Portree a flavour of fèis by the harbour.
For accommodation listings and information on things to do in the Isle of Skye, please go to www.skye.co.uk.
On the day you will be able to pick up a miniature radio device from Portree and tune in to Cuillin FM 106.2 & 102.7 to listen to the one-off soundscape that artists Zoe Walker and Neil Bromwich have especially put together with the people of Skye, including poets, musicians and fishermen. You can then take to the zig-zagging coastal path to Scorrybreac, the location of a combination of late nineteenth century town houses and native woodland, and enjoy the stunning views to Ben Tianavaig and the island of Rasaay, the old man of Storr and the Cuillin mountains, whilst accompanied by the purpose-built soundtrack.
